Old Six Mile Rd. Site Withdrawn from Consideration

"The prospective site for the future Daniel High on Old Six Mile Highway, however, was withdrawn from consideration. The site was deemed inappropriate when expected additional acreage did not become available. District Superintendent Lee D'Andrea said the search for a suitable site will continue."  (The Greenville News)

Well-known Greenville lawyer and nature photographer Tommy Wyche donated his time and talents to produce a beautiful coffee table book showcasing the Clemson Experimental Forest. He is nationally recognized for his achievements in conserving large sections of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Carolinas. Tommy’s other nature photography books are The Blue Ridge Escarpment, The Blue Wall, Mosaic and Cycles of Nature. Naturalist John Garton was the guide and author for this book on the Clemson Forest.

Called Quiet Reflections, the 128-page, full-color book is scheduled for delivery in mid-November… just in time for holiday gift-giving. It also will be a wonderful gift throughout the year for University visitors, donors, alumni and friends.

Pickens County School Board

reveals plan to build on Old Six Mile Rd.

Although the Pickens County School Board (PCSB) denied having selected a site and refused to speak to the issue, the site plan that was presented with the New Daniel High School was sitting on the 60 acre tract of private property and 40 acres of Clemson Experimental Forest Land as pictures show (see side by side pictures).  This proposed site sits right in the middle of a very large and sensitive part of the Issaqueena forest.

"....and school board members have entered into an agreement of purchase and sale with property owners for the new Daniel, Easley and Pickens high schools." (Article in greenvilleonline.com)

When asked about the issue, Clemson University officials said: "We have not sold or made any commitment to sell land to the Pickens County School District." (Article on wyff4.com)

There seems to be some double talk going on.  PCSB officials saying there is no site, and then publicly saying they have entered into an agreement.  Clemson University Officials saying that they have not made any commitment to sell land.  We wait to see what the truth is.
